Fire Type Dual-Type Chart

This chart shows how much damage a Fire-type move deals to every combination of two defending types. Rows are the first defender type and columns are the second. Each cell gives the damage multiplier: 4 is extremely effective (400%), 2 is super effective (200%), ½ is not very effective (50%), ¼ is highly resistant (25%) and 0 means no effect. Blank cells are normal 1× damage, and the gray diagonal marks a type paired with itself, which is not a valid dual type.

Fire Type Summary

A premier attacking type that burns four types, offset by three common weaknesses.

Fire is one of the game's best offensive types. It hits four types for super effective damage and can spread burn, but it is weak to three very common attacking types and has no immunities, so Fire-type Pokémon usually rely on speed and coverage to survive.

Fire on offense

Fire-type moves are super effective against Grass, Ice, Bug and Steel, and only Fire, Water, Rock and Dragon resist them. Moves such as Flamethrower, Fire Blast and Flare Blitz are common on attackers of all kinds, and the burn they can inflict also cripples physical attackers.

Fire on defense

Fire-types take double damage from Ground, Rock and Water — three of the most common offensive types — and resist six types without any immunity to fall back on. Pairing Fire with a Flying or Grass subtype can remove the Ground weakness, which is why combinations like Fire/Flying and Fire/Grass are popular.

Notable Fire-type Pokémon

Famous Fire-types include Charizard, Arcanine, Volcarona, Chandelure, Cinderace, Heatran and Incineroar. Their secondary types and abilities — Levitate on Chandelure, Flash Fire on Heatran, Protean on Cinderace — are often what decide how well they handle the type's weaknesses.
