Rock Type Dual-Type Chart

This chart shows how much damage a Rock-type move deals to every combination of two defending types. Rows are the first defender type and columns are the second. Each cell gives the damage multiplier: 4 is extremely effective (400%), 2 is super effective (200%), ½ is not very effective (50%), ¼ is highly resistant (25%) and 0 means no effect. Blank cells are normal 1× damage, and the gray diagonal marks a type paired with itself, which is not a valid dual type.

Rock Type Summary

Heavy physical power and a sandstorm boost, undone by five weaknesses.

Rock is a high-power physical type that hits four types hard and gains a Special Defense boost in sandstorm. Five weaknesses — including common Water, Ground and Fighting — keep most Rock-types slow and matchup-sensitive, though their damage output can end games if they get a turn.

Rock on offense

Rock-type moves are super effective against Fire, Ice, Flying and Bug and are resisted by Fighting, Ground and Steel, with nothing immune to them. Moves such as Stone Edge and Rock Slide are feared for their power, and Stealth Rock is one of the most influential hazards in competitive play.

Rock on defense

Rock-types are weak to Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground and Steel and resist Normal, Fire, Poison and Flying. The long weakness list means Rock Pokémon are usually slow and hit-and-run, and they lean on sandstorm or Sturdy to survive a turn.

Notable Rock-type Pokémon

Famous Rock-types include Tyranitar, Rhyperior, Aerodactyl, Shuckle, Garganacl, Nihilego and Lycanroc. Their stats and abilities vary enormously, from the special-attacking Nihilego to the legendary-baiting defensive Shuckle.
