Ground Type Dual-Type Chart

This chart shows how much damage a Ground-type move deals to every combination of two defending types. Rows are the first defender type and columns are the second. Each cell gives the damage multiplier: 4 is extremely effective (400%), 2 is super effective (200%), ½ is not very effective (50%), ¼ is highly resistant (25%) and 0 means no effect. Blank cells are normal 1× damage, and the gray diagonal marks a type paired with itself, which is not a valid dual type.

Ground Type Summary

Elite two-way coverage with the best immunity in the game — Electric.

Ground is one of the strongest attacking types, hitting five types for super effective damage, and it is completely immune to Electric. Its weaknesses to Water, Grass and Ice are the only thing keeping Earthquake and Earth Power from being unstoppable.

Ground on offense

Ground-type moves are super effective against Fire, Electric, Poison, Rock and Steel, and are resisted only by Grass and Bug, while Flying-types are immune. Earthquake is one of the most common moves in the game for exactly this reason: it threatens a huge share of the type chart at once.

Ground on defense

Ground-types are weak to Water, Grass and Ice and resist Poison and Rock, with a valuable immunity to Electric. That Electric immunity lets Ground-types block Volt Switch and Thunder Wave, which makes them natural partners for Flying or Levitate Pokémon and key pieces of defensive cores.

Notable Ground-type Pokémon

Famous Ground-types include Garchomp, Landorus, Excadrill, Hippowdon, Swampert, Gliscor and Great Tusk. Many of them combine heavy offense with enough bulk to switch in, and abilities like Sand Rush or Water Absorb shape how each one is used.
